Alana Ellenburg, a teacher at Pepperell High School, was inducted into the Dixie Softball, Inc. Hall of Fame on January 29, 2009.  The induction ceremony was held at the Gardendale, Alabama Civic Center.  During the induction, Ellenburg was presented a plaque by Dixie Softball’s national president, James E. “Obie” Evans.

Ellenburg began her Dixie Softball career in 1976 playing for a 12-and-under team in her hometown community of Graysville.  Ellenburg quickly became a leader both on offense and defense for her teams and her abilities led her to many all-star tournament appearances throughout her Dixie Softball career.  She also participated in four state tournaments.  She helped to lead her 1979 team to a state championship and a trip to the Dixie Softball Ponytails (12 and under) World Series played in Bartow, Florida.  She also played in a Dixie Softball World Series as a member of the 78 West host league.  She played with the Graysville team in the 78 West Dixie Softball league through the 1985 season.

Alana Ellenburg went on to play softball at Jacksonville State University in Alabama and was named an All-Conference player.  It was noted during Alana’s induction that she continued playing softball into her adult life and also coached school softball.  Evans said, “Dixie Softball is proud of the influence it had on the career of Alana Ellenburg but is more proud of the person she has become.  Her resume of awards in the educational field she has chosen is very impressive."
